My rights and obligations

During your stay in Switzerland, you have certain rights that ensure your protection, and certain obligations. Your rights, based on the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) allows you to grow up with security and develop perspectives for the future. Your obligations deal with respecting the country’s laws and regulations.

Rights

If you are an unaccompagnied child and a minor, you have the right:

  • To have legal council who can help with procedures and protect your interests
  • To receive schooling (primary and secondary school)
  • To medical treatment if necessary
  • To be informed of any procedures that concern you
  • To express your opinion about decisions that concern you
  • To contact your family
  • To have access to hobbies

Obligations

Living in Switzerland entails certain obligations. You must:

  • Respect the rules in the centre where you live
  • Collaborate with various services that are assisting you and in particular with your asylum request
  • Respect Swiss laws
  • Respect rules governing community life
